Prague.

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic’s province Bohemia.  It is located at the heart of Europe surrounded by Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Austria.

Way back in time, in 1355 to be concrete, Prague became a cultural center of the Holy Roman Empire, hundreds of years later it was annexed by the House of Habsburg and consequently was under Austrian cultural dominance for quite a while. Its influence is still evident in Prague’s cityscape.

During the Second World War the Nazis brought terror over the Czech Republic, until their sovereign was redeemed by the opposite extreme. Communism rolled into Prague by 1945 in form of Soviet tanks. They should remain until 1989, when the CSSR dissociated itself from Socialism.

The Prague of today is a highly-developed, modern Central-Eastern European city which is well ahead of the other Czech municipalities regarding income, a low unemployment rate and growing spending power.

The city is flooded by tourists every year. After 1989 the majority was attracted by the cheapness of Czech beer and liquor, needless to say, that this attitude led to rather unpleasant tourist behavior in the Czech capital. Now, especially as the Czech Republic, joined the European Union goods have become more expensive.

With prices sometimes at Western level, sometimes well above, the majority of tourists nowadays comes exclusively for the unique beauty of Prague whose traditional cityscape has been well-preserved over the years.
