This is the oldest theatre in the city and famously where Mozart first conducted the premiere of Don Giovanni in 1787. The theatre has experienced as much drama over the decades as it has presented and subsequently has had several name changes.
In 1920 it merged with the National Theatre and was renamed the Theatre of Estates, or as it is commonly known, Estates Theatre. Although most of the operas and musicals are from Mozart’s works, musicals, dramas and operas from other composers and writers are occasionally presented. Most are in their original language, which is usually Italian, with English and Czech super titles. Due to it's close links with the National Theatre,many ballet productions from Cinderella to Swan Lake are now also performed here.
