Weather and Climate.

The geographical position of the Czech Republic influences its weather significantly. The country is almost completely surrounded by mountains and Prague, its capital, lies in a basin. Generally the interior is characterised by a hilly landscape.
The weather in the Czech Republic as well as in Prague is influenced by a maritime but even more by a continental climate. This means you have hot and showery summers with temperatures sometimes above 35°C, especially in July and August, and cold and snowy winters when the temperature falls to around -17°C. Although the summer months are very hot, those preceding August are also very rainy and the temperature differences during one day can vary.
A sunny and warm day can be succeeded by a rather chilly evening and night. So don’t forget to take a sweater or a jacket with you! The beginning of the year and the months of January and February are the coldest ones. So if you want to avoid heat and masses of tourists, plan your visit for May or September and do not forget to take along an umbrella.
